Good day/bad day

Today was a bad day because: both my phones got cut off because I am too poor to pay my bills. Then the car wouldn't start. Then I missed Ness talking about vintage fashion at the Creative Fashion Forum because I got the time wrong...

Today was a good day because: I found 6 Basil Spence dining chairs next to a skip. Then My Swish was featured in Cath Kidston Magazine:

Maybe not so bad after all then... How was your day?

  1. Darling, I have slavaged a selection of Basil Spence chairs from skips and am working on a set of dining chairs for our new extension. Can you send me a picture of your chairs? I am really interested in the different styles. And where did you find them? Also, have you seen this: http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/43/61675443.html

  4. YES! THAT'S THEM!! I found them by the Slide Library entrance to Silverstone Building! Are you going to re-cover yours or keep the authentic black vinyl? xx

  5. Ahaa! You are a very lucky girl. I have been getting on people's nerves for years about a re-appreciation of original Spence furniture, and now they are slowly beginning to realise what they have been putting into skips over the last decade. I have three of these chairs, two "reading chairs" (the same with arm rests), a low armchair, an square Ercol elmwood coffee table and 5 matching Ercol elnwood writing desks. All found in UoS skips over the years. Some still waiting to be taken home. I am partly furnishing the Language Centre with them, but 4 chairs will become my dining chairs. One of the reading chairs is at home with my Swedish desk (blog post to follow). The library have started reconditioning the chairs. Some are already done and look stunning (top floor of the library). I think I will stick with the black leatherette covers, since they were made to Spence's design. Let us compare Spence mythologies soon! Will post pictures, or might just invite you round to our house. A x

  6. Sorry, a bit obsessed with Spence at the moment. Have just been to Coventry and am beginning to realise what good choice the Meeting House was for our wedding.

  7. Wow, you have done so well! Will have to come and see them all soon. I saw a lovely 60s desk outside Arts A last week - it had been left out in the rain and had warped - so sad...

  8. I know, that desk is outside my office and has now died an undignified "death by skaterboys". I wish I had had room for it. If you like the Ercol desks and have space for one you could have one ... x
